Bukovyna's automotive race history dates back to 1980s when the road between Ruska and Dolyshny Shepit villages (over the Shurdyn mountain pass) was first used during the Karpaty ("Carpathians") rally. Tortuous mountain passages appeared to be perfect for fascinating risky car races and since then several events of this kind have been held in the region every year. Some of them are regular (as a part of the Cup of Ukraine), others are occasional (like Chernivtsi 600 rally that coincided with the city's 600th anniversary in 2008). Bukovyna, Aleksandrov Rally, Carpathian Golden Autumn, Bukovynian Winter rallies can be mentioned among others.
As a rule, events are organized by the Chernivtsi Regional Automobile Club together with the Autosport Federation of Ukraine and local authorities.
